It's hardly a secret that we all need to start making greener choices in our daily lives. But because of an overload of green news, I find that many people still are confused about how to actually make meaningful changes.
I'm here to point you to the solutions that will work for you. Conscious Consumer will deliver simple, well-researched, and practical green living answers and product reviews.
I promise that this blog is not about shopping our way out of our problems, since I'm convinced that consuming less - energy, water, products, you name it - is the best way to make an impact. It's also a great way to save money! But, when it's time to go shopping, I'll equip you with the info you need to make smart decisions based on your priorities.
I approach this topic from the perspective of a journalist, a mom, and as the author of GREEN, GREENER, GREENEST: A Practical Guide to Making Eco-Smart Choices a Part of Your Life (Perigee, 2008). A major point of GREEN, GREENER, GREENEST is to offer a spectrum of choices, acknowledging that we're not all starting from the same place, nor do we all have the same green goals. Green tips are easy and inexpensive. Greener suggestions are for those who have the time, interest or budget to do a little more. Greenest are for people who want to take an issue all the way. I'll periodically use this language to help you identify how much of a commitment a suggestion will take.
Some of my best ideas will come from the questions you ask me. And, please remember to share your favorite green strategies and products.
