DIY holiday decorations

Using things around the house and a glue gun, you can easily craft decorations to spruce things up for the holidays.

Turn a stashed-away stack of paper plates into "stained glass" pictures to hang on the wall.

If you're hanging decorations on a tree, give old, scratched-up ornaments a makeover with ribbons, paint, and even split peas! You don't have to be a Martha Stewart to customize your own magical snow globes -- any old jar will do for this personalized project.

Self-hardening clay for a homemade menorah adds a nice custom touch to Hanukkah celebrations. For Kwanzaa gatherings, why not transform a little red, black, and green felt into a child's kufi head covering?

The nice thing about many DIY decoration projects -- like marshmallow polar bears -- if you make a mistake, you can eat it and start over.
