Free to you and me

You may have heard about the Freecycle movement -- people giving away their old stuff for free instead of junking it. Freecyclers network using Yahoo! Groups to get rid of furniture, bikes, clothes, computer gear, you name it, to people who need stuff. This keeps material out of the landfill and lets other folks use things that are still serviceable.

People of the Web has a great video and article about Freecycle founder Deron Beal. See some of the cool ways the concept has helped people, such as by re-habbing old bikes for needy kids and furnishing apartments for Hurricane Katrina survivors.

Go to Freecycle.org to find a group near you. Freecycle groups are keeping about 300 tons of rubbish out of landfills worldwide every day!
