Solar backpacks made from plastic bottles

By Hank Green Posted Fri Nov 23, 2007 12:43pm PST

We've seen solar bags ... and we've seen bags made of plastic bottles ... but this is the first time we've seen those two environmental innovations co-existing.

Pretty frikkin cool really. Voltaic and Reware are both making gadget-charging solar bags out of post-consumer plastic.

Post-consumer, recycled-plastic fibers take less energy to create, don't use any new materials, and keep the plastic in use and out of landfills. Meanwhile, solar-powered bags keep your cell phone or iPod going without the need to plug in to the electric grid.

In terms of environmental innovations, it's not gonna change the world -- but it is a pretty cool way to wear your EcoGeek badge on your sleeve.
