Starting today, advocates will be staging dozens of events throughout New York City in an attempt to influence the world's government and business leaders, who are converging on Manhattan for a round of United Nations global warming negotiations.

Climate Week NYC has one aim: underscore the urgency of global warming, and communicate our desire to see a strong successor to the Kyoto Protocol adopted in December in Copenhagen.

The chances of seeing a strong treaty negotiated are questionable, particularly because the U.S. Senate has yet to act on energy legislation that the House passed earlier this year. That bill calls for the first nationwide cap on carbon dioxide emissions, the primary driver of global warming.

If you're in or around New York City this week, join in an event.
