Infographic: Carbon cap leads to jobs

carbon cap

As some may be aware, capping carbon pollution will help create jobs, make the U.S. energy-independent, and fight global warming. A carbon cap is a crucial step towards a safe and prosperous American future — but many Americans don't have a clear idea of how a carbon cap will work.

So we at Environmental Defense designed this graphic, illustrating how capping carbon pollution stimulates the economy and creates jobs.

It's designed to be easy for reporters, editors, and bloggers around the country to use. We're hoping it will help them explain the concept to readers, even while they're busy covering the the political story of the Waxman-Markey Bill working its way through Congress.

Please post or link to it from wherever you want to! (We also have a bigger web-friendly version and files meant for printing.)

I think a better name for this program would be tax and trade. Who is going to pay for this? An investor expects a return on his money. This money comes from energy users ie. you and me. There has got to be a better way. I think we are on presently on the right path-- The US has produces more clean energy in the past few years than any other country

A Trillion tax dollars for wars and oil but when it comes to creating jobs, reducing dependency on foreign oil and doing something about climate change the myopic start screaming. Wake up! Climate Change is real and we need to invest in a cleaner less violent future.

It's about time? What's taken so long? After all the tax breaks We are given the oil company's I can't see why we are paying so mush for gas? They made 45 Billion profit last year and 65 Billion the year before that! So why are we still given them tax breaks? Anyone who still wants to stay with oil and gas company,Works for them or they are stupid!!I for one want my children and Grandchildren to live in a better world then me with clean water and air,So what's taken so long?

No mention of any job losses... only gains. The net impact may be positive or negative depending on which industry lobbies you believe. Tribilin219, we aren't paying enough for gas... that is part of the problem. In Europe, they tax petrol consumption in order to a) reflect more of the true cost of burning it, and b) to reduce consumption.

Cap and tax with the promise of job creation. The more a govt can tax the worse off we are. Could be job creation but over all would produce higher unemployment and a much bigger burden on everyone.
